Intestinal parasites are micro-organisms that live within the digestive tract and survive by eating your food. Their presence doesn’t always provoke symptoms, but this means they can often go undetected for years, causing nutrient deficiencies and other related health issues. Frequently, people become infected while travelling, from contaminated water, fruits, vegetables, poultry, fish, meat; or from pets.
Possible symptoms of parasites
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Gas, bloating and cramps
- Skin problems
- Insomnia
- Sugar cravings
- Unexplained weight loss
- Headaches, backaches, general pain
- Nasal drip/nose picking (in children)
- Foul smelling stools
- Food sensitivities
- Fatigue
- Attacks of sweating, feeling cold or fever
- Hunger attacks
- Anal itching
Parasites aren’t always detected within one sample and therefore, three stool samples are needed to ensure accuracy. It is a microscopic investigation for worm eggs and protozoa cysts. These are hardy creatures and therefore, this detailed examination is needed to confirm their presence.
Once you have received your results, our qualified Nutrition Team will be able to discuss these with you and advise on an appropriate nutritional programme.
