Dr Justin Roberts is a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Health and Exercise, within the School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire. He holds a PhD in Applied Physiology and Nutrition from Brunel University and is an Accredited Sport and Exercise Physiologist from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). Dr Roberts is a Registered Nutrition Practitioner with both the Nutrition Therapy Council (NTC) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and a member of the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT).
Having previously worked for the British Olympic Medical Centre, Dr Roberts gained significant experience working with world-class athletes, elite professional triathletes and various expedition and ultra-endurance competitors. More recently he was senior nutrition advisor to the Football Association England Squad, and Manchester City Football Club (Senior Men’s Team). He is the current BASES Laboratory Director of the Performance Testing Centre at the University of Hertfordshire which undertakes functional nutrition and performance assessment on all aspects of physical activity through to world class performance via its experienced graduate-led consultancy testing team.
With a specific interest in functional medicine applied to performance nutrition, over the past ten years, Dr Roberts has led various research projects engaging the leading sports and clinical nutrition companies. He is currently running a large-scale multidisciplinary research study investigating the effects of long term endurance training and nutritional intake on recreational individuals undertaking their first ironman distance triathlon.
Justin himself takes part in ultra-endurance challenges around the world, recently completing the infamous Marathon Des Sables, a 151mile gruelling race across the Sahara Desert in Southern Morocco. He is currently building up for his 5th Ironman Triathlon to take place in Barcelona this year.
